Entries

  • Entry Fee is $25.00 per rider (Under 19s) & $35.00 per rider (Adults).
  • Entries will be accepted until midnight on Tuesday 18th June, however, a late entry fee of $10.00 per Adult rider will be charged for entries received after Wednesday  12th June.
  • For teams: Team captain should sign up first and create the Team Name. Other team members will then be able to select the Team Name from the list when registering.
  • Solo riders: Please do not fill in Team Name.

Important Event Information

  • This year we have introduced a Corporate Team section – all corporate teams must have a minimum of one female rider.
  • There will be E-Bike 4 Hour Team and an E-Bike 8 Hour Team categories – you must be in this category even if there is only one E-Bike rider in your team.
  • All riders entering in the 8 Hour Race must be 13 years or over on race day. There is no age restriction for the 4 Hour Race and there is a category for U15 teams this year.
  • Spot prizes will be given away during the day. Riders will be notified if they have won a prize as they cross the start/finish line. They must then report to the Club Marquee to collect their prize. Spot prizes for solo riders will be held at the marquee until after the race.
  • Prize giving for the 4 Hour race will be on course at approximately 5.20 pm. Prize giving for the 8 Hour race will also be on course as soon as we have the results.
  • For teams, every team member must ride at least one lap of the course.
  • Teams will be issued with a reflective wrist band, which is to be passed on to the next rider for the team before they commence their lap. All team riders on the course must wear the band and failure to do so could mean forfeiting the lap. Please return the wrist band at the end of the race.
  • All persons entering this event are required to read the entry form thoroughly, understanding the terms of entry. Individuals signing this form on behalf of a team are to ensure that all team members have read and understand the terms of entry.

Timetable for Raceday

9.00 to 10.30 am:  Registration – this will be held in the Southland MTB Club Marquee. Solo riders and teams must register before the riders briefing on the morning of the race to collect their race packs. Please register earlier rather than later to avoid the queue.

10.30 am:  Riders briefing for the 8 Hour Race – this is compulsory for all riders competing in the event.

11.00 am:  8 Hour Race Start.

12.30 pm:  Registration closes for 4 Hour Race + riders briefing for the 4 Hour Race – this is compulsory for all riders competing in the event.

1.00 pm:  4 Hour Race Start.

4:35 pm (approx.):  Cut off time for the start of final laps for the 4 Hour Race.

5:00 pm:  4 Hour Race Finish.

5.20 pm:  Prizegiving for 4 Hour competitors, on course at Sandy Point.

6.35 pm (approx.): Cut off time for the start of final laps for the 8 Hour Race.

7.00 pm:  8 Hour race Finish.

7:20 pm:  Prizegiving for 8 Hour competitors, on course at Sandy Point.


Car Parking and Team Sites

  • Car parking will be on the east side of Sandy Point Road, opposite the main carpark/course.
  • Competitors are allowed to park one vehicle onsite and may erect tents / marquees on course in the transition area (the course will be taped through the transition area, which will be in the main track car park).
  • All vehicles and tents will have to stay in place for the duration of the race. 
  • Tents and marquees may be erected on Friday night at your own risk – there will be no overnight security.


Course

  • The event will be based at the Sandy Point Mountain Bike Tracks. This is situated on Invercargill City Council forestry land and the trails are built and maintained by the Southland Mountain Bike Club.
  • The transition area for team riders will be part of the course but located in a designated area outside the forestry block – part of the main carpark.
  • The course will consist of approximately 60 % man-made single track and 40 % fire break/access roads.
  • Average lap times are expected to be approximately 30 minutes.
  • The organisers reserve the right to alter the course, start time or duration of the event if conditions warrant.

Eligibility

  • The 8 Hour Race is open to riders aged 13 years or older on race day.
  • There is no age restriction on the 4 Hour Race.
  • As the course includes some technical sections of track, riders must have mountain bike skills and a reasonable level of fitness to compete.
  • NZ Standard Approved bike helmets must always be worn while riding and helmets must be in good condition.
  • Only mountain bikes are permitted on the course.


Rules

  • Race briefing will be held prior to the race start and is compulsory for all riders (see schedule for times).
  • Riders must abide by all instructions given by the race officials.
  • Riders must follow the marked course and must not deviate from it or ride it in the reverse direction for any reason.
  • If a competitor encounters difficulties during a lap, they must stay on the course and proceed to the transition area.
  • Riders must obey road rules when riding on Sandy Point Road – this includes the use of head and taillights during hours of darkness.
  • Transitions for team riders are only to be made in the designated area. Only one rider per team is allowed on the course at any one time.
  • The cut-off time for commencement of the final lap will be at the discretion of the race organisers – this will depend on average lap times and will be announced on the day.
  • Riders must complete the final lap prior to 7.00 pm for it to be counted.
  • The winners in each category will be decided by the number of full laps completed prior to 7.00 pm and the fastest time taken to do so.
  • Headphones are not to be worn on the course.
  • Over aggressive riding will not be tolerated. This is to be a fun event for all!


Consent

By registering via Webscorer for this event, I, and my team members, consent to receive any medical treatment that may be deemed necessary in the event of accident, injury, or illness during this event.

I authorise the use of my name, voice and picture and any information provided by me or my team on this entry form to be used without payment, in any broadcast, telecast, promotion or advertising and on the Southland Mountain Bike Club's website.

I accept that I, or my team, may be disqualified from the event if I do not abide by these rules.


Refund Policy

A $5.00 admin fee will be retained for any cancellations before Wednesday 19th June.  No refunds will be given for any cancellations after Wednesday 19th June.  If the event is cancelled due to extreme weather or any other factors outside the event organisers control, no refund will be given.
